Monitoring of critical systems to prevent hazards

Critical infrastructures are systems that require special protection. If such a system is compromised or even fails, public safety is at risk. The Federal Ministry of the Interior distinguishes between critical infrastructures in the areas of energy, information technology and telecommunications, transportation and traffic, health, water, food, finance and insurance, government and administration, and media and culture.

Monitoring systems to defend against cyberattacks generates large amounts of data that pose challenges for analysts and security forces: First, the data must be collected in real time, correlated and aggregated. In a next step, they have to be analyzed for anomalies. Finally, the results are summarized and visualized in a meaningful image.

In these tasks, the Fraunhofer Big Data and AI Alliance can advise and develop solutions to protect critical infrastructures.
